Here at Organifi, we aim to make a positive impact - not just you, but also the world around you.
That's why we are so excited to announce that our product packaging uses eco-friendly materials made from a renewable resource: sugarcane.
With the newly introduced, eco-friendly, sugarcane ‘eco-canisters’, Organifi is making another important move toward providing sustainable, healthful nutrition. By purchasing Organifi Green Juice, Red Juice or Gold in eco-friendly canisters, you can feel confident that you’re helping reduce greenhouse gas emission and are making a step toward an eco-friendly lifestyle.
But first, let's take a moment to dive into the "why" behind this shift.
This adds up to about 38 billion of these plastic water bottles going to landfills each year. Most plastic isn't biodegradable. Which means that it won't just go away if we bury it.
It will take at least 1,000 years for these bottles to break down into smaller particles.
You don't have to do extensive math to know that that is not good news for our current world or our future.
Remember, this is just water bottles. Think about all the other plastic - containers, bags, wraps, cups, lids, straws, and so on - that end up wasted in our landfills.
Experts believe that by 2050, there will be so much plastic in our ocean that it will weigh more than the fish in it and that there will be 12 billion metric tons of plastic in landfills, 35,000 times heavier than the Empire State Building.
Plastics and their byproducts are littering our cities, lands, forests, oceans, and waterways. There are floating plastic islands in our ocean today, including The Great Pacific Garbage Patch between California and Hawaii with tons of plastic waste gathering and floating on the water.
Though that might make you think of an island-like blog of trash, that's not quite true. Here are a few facts about the marine debris that accumulates in the Pacific Ocean:
Plastic waste is also contributing to countless health problems in both humans and animals. Many animals get trapped in plastic bags and other products. Others mistake them for food, eat them, and end up with a disease or die.
About 100,000 animals are killed by plastic in the sea and ocean alone each year.
Think about it like this: if a fish mistakes a piece of plastic as food, it may end up on your own plate - and in your stomach!
Certain plastics, such as BPA, may also cause cancer and another disease in both humans and animals.
By recycling 75% of our plastics, we could save 1 billion gallons of oil and a total of 44 million cubic yards of landfill space per year. One ton of recycled plastic could save 98 million BTUs of energy, 685 gallons of oil, 5,774 kWh of electricity, and 30 cubic yards of a landfill!
Besides recycling plastic, it is also important to choose better, more eco-friendly, and more health-protecting alternatives to plastic. That's where our eco-plastic from sugarcane comes in.
Organifi is committed to reducing the impact of our packages - beyond recycling. We are doing this by using materials for our canisters that come from renewable resources.
Through much research, we realized that sugarcane doesn’t disrupt our food supply nor our food system. In fact, our eco-plastic actually has a negative carbon footprint!
Sugarcane is very water efficient and can even grow naturally with the help of a little rainfall. Plus, when it's growing, it’s capturing CO2, and actually contributing to better air.
These sugarcane crops take up only 1 percent of Brazil’s farmland and are grown 1,200 miles from the Amazon rainforest. This distance from the rainforest helps ensure that these eco-canisters don't contribute to deforestation.
When sugarcane is harvested, it goes to mills. There it’s divided into edible sugar and ethanol for plant plastic.
After this process, we are left with a pulp called ‘bagasse’, which is a biofuel that can actually fuel the production reducing any need for fossil fuel and creating an eco-friendly production. They even provide power for surrounding cities creating more eco-friendly, and affordable energy for its citizens.
Milling the sugar also creates as a nutrient-rich liquid called vinasse that can be used as a natural fertilizer for next season’s crop, eliminating the need for any chemicals and pesticides.
Moreover, Brazilian sugarcane is 100% free from GMOs, making it an even healthier and eco-friendly choice.
Organifi eco-canisters are durable and protective like traditional plastic, however, they are also incredibly eco-friendly, and better for our planet and health.
Green Polyethylene from sugarcane helps to reduce greenhouse gases. Organifi eco-canisters are extracting 2.59 metric tons of Co2 out of the atmosphere per every 20,000 canisters.
And, of course, our eco-canisters are 100% recyclable.
They are the best choice for your superfood products.
Organifi is on a mission to make a positive impact on the world and our environment by reducing our carbon footprint with 100% recyclable sugarcane canisters. By switching to packaging materials made from Sugarcane Polyethylene, Organifi is able to reduce Co2 from the atmosphere.
