You’ve probably heard the term “superfood” used quite a bit in the health food world, but what does it actually mean?
Research shows that the foods we eat have a powerful effect on mood, how we age, our brain health and can change us on a cellular level.
A “superfood” refers to a food that’s rich in nutrients and extremely beneficial to your well-being. In most cases “superfoods” include organic, plant-based, whole foods.
In today’s processed and fast food diet, superfoods can - at times - be few and far between.
But when it comes right down to it, these superfoods are exactly what your body truly needs and craves.
Not only do these foods provide the vitamins and minerals, they have countless other benefits as well.
Why Turmeric? This ancient root is loaded with antioxidants, and it has been used for nearly 5,000 years. And it is recognized by modern science and has been explored in over 3,000 studies spanning the last 25 years!
- AND our turmeric is sourced from a farm that gives computers and furniture to impoverished schools in India.
- The farm also provides water to local villages in need, and offers health camps for those in need.
- They’ve engaged over 3,000 farmers in rural India and provided them with necessary equipment for successful farming.

Did you know that hot chocolate has been enjoyed around the world for thousands of years as a health beverage?
The history of your favorite healthy cup of hot chocolate dates back to 500 BC on the land where Mexico is today. The Mayans made their drinking chocolate from ground up cacao seeds, cornmeal, and chili peppers mixed with water. Hot chocolate was regarded as a luxury. (Elites and royalty were even buried with it!)
Eventually, in the early 1500s, it made its way to Europe, when explorer Cortez brought some cacao beans and hot chocolate making tools from Central-America. Enjoying a cup of healthy hot chocolate became popular quickly among Spanish royalty and upper class. Though the Spanish were originally very protective of their sacred drink, over time hot chocolate made its way across Europe.
In the 1700s chocolate houses opened in London. Throughout the centuries, the Europeans also added more sweetness and spices, and eventually milk, to the original, simple and slightly bitter drink.
Hot chocolate was viewed as a health drink until the 19th century. Thomas Jefferson even referred to it as a healthy beverage choice!
In fact, the Mayan version of today’s hot chocolate was historically used for its medicinal and nutritional properties to combat a long list of health hurdles and chronic conditions (including everything from indigestion to hemorrhoids!).
The Classic Hot Chocolate Grande at Starbucks?
It has almost 33 Grams of Sugar...
(By the way, that’s more sugar than you should have in an entire DAY.)
And DIY cocoa from a package isn’t much better...
One envelope of a conventional hot chocolate mix has 90 calories and 11 grams of sugar.
And the ingredient list of most hot chocolate mixes is not what anyone would call healthy...
Sugar, corn syrup, cocoa processed with alkali, modified whey, hydrogenated coconut oil, nonfat milk, salt, dipotassium phosphate, carrageenan, mono- and diglycerides, cesium potassium, sucralose, and artificial flavor. (You can’t even pronounce most of these ingredients.)
Gold Chocolate is a decadent, delicious cocoa drink curated to support the body’s innate and restorative processes while you sleep.
Every soothing sip is meant to cultivate a calmer state of mind and reward you with rest and relaxation ... all in a delicious treat ...
