A Mango Protein Shake Recipe to Get You Ready for Summer Mornings

Written by: Lindsay Sibson

A vegan protein shake recipe might be the most effective way to stop hitting the snooze button.

Wait, what?

Yes, you read correctly: a vegan protein shake recipe, that actually tastes like early dessert, might help you get up early and feel energized in the morning instead of annoyed and potentially “dreadful.”

  • 53.86% of people feel “dreadful” when they hear their alarm goes off in the morning, according to a 2017 study.
  • A morning routine can be essential for high-energy productive days
  • A vegan protein shake recipe with moringa and/or green juice powder can supercharge your morning, leveraging the natural powers of plants.
  • There are other ways to energize your morning that don’t involve caffeine.

I know what you’re thinking, “there’s no way a vegan protein shake recipe is going to help me get out of bed in the morning.”

And I get it before I came up with this breezy, summery even, heavenly morning concoction, I didn’t either!

Not everyone is an early bird, and that’s OK. Sometimes it’s all about nutrition.

There are those blessed with ‘morning-person’ genes and then there’s me, neither a night owl nor an early riser. Stuck somewhere between “I can’t fall asleep” and “ughhhh whyyy, I don’t want to get up.”

I used to be one of those people who had multiple alarms on their phone, all about 5 to 7 minutes apart from each other, with names like “Time to Wake Up”, “We Can STILL Make it,” all the way down to “GET UP NOW LINDSAY”

Beep, beep,  beep [snooze] (too early)
Beep, beep, beep [snooze], (five more minutes)
Beep, beep, beeeeeep (being late for work and my morning flatline).

Ah, the glorious sounds of waking up early in the morning and heading off to a busy day of work and “life.”

After a couple of months of feeling like a Zombie, I decided it was time to take control and figure out how I could either get those extra five minutes -without previously hitting the Snooze or Stop buttons- or find a way to bolt my body awake with nutrition (and not caffeine!)

Superfoods like moringa can give you a morning boost without relying on coffee.

And that’s how I came up with this, dare I say magical, vegan protein shake recipe.

Supercharge Your Morning with Get-Out-of-Bed Food and Practices

Here’s the deal: I’ve been around the sun far too many times to continue this toxic relationship with my iPhone.

When I started tinkering in the kitchen, and researching online, for something that would help me feel better in the a.m., I  wasn’t expecting the answer to be so simple: a few tasty ingredients can help you zap out of that morning haze - but you still need to make it out of bed first. A vegan protein shake recipe may power your day, but you still need to be up to drink it!

So if any (or far too much) of this feels relatable to you, here are a few of my get-out-of-bed without snoozing recommendations:

#1 Try the 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 countdown trick

To just *jump* out of bed - Mel Robins swears by it! But before you hit the “Stop” button on your alarm/phone. Keeping the sound on will motivate you to not count down to sleep until the next alarm.

#2 Support your morning by trying a night routine

I try to switch off my phone and do a “device detox” at least 40 minutes before bed.

#3 Try to figure out how much sleep you need

Everyone is different, perhaps you need seven or nine hours instead of eight. Make sure you at least get six or more consistently, anything below that is considered sleep deprivation and may mess with your cortisol and sleep.

#4 Put it on Paper

Put your worrying night-time thoughts on a piece of paper and let them go! Try a body scan meditation if you can’t stop thinking before sleep. (I actually did this when I came up with this vegan protein shake recipe because the health benefits kept swirling in my head)

#5 Place the alarm or phone far away from your bed

And force yourself to get up to turn it off!

#6 Practice a nice thought before you rise

It’s easy to think “ugh,” but it’s just as easy to practice having a nice thought that fuels your mood positively instead: either think fo three to five things you’re grateful for, just say “YAS! Good Morning Linsay!” (maybe substitute the Lindsey with your name, but I’m OK  with the extra good juju)

#7 Get Your Nutrients In!

One of the reasons the “ugh” feeling stays past that morning alarm moment, is that we then go on to have the quickest bite or caffeine shortcut available (coffee and bagels anyone?) So this vegan protein shake recipe will have you satisfied, fuel you with nutrients, and give your morning a boost.

Ok, now that we have that down, let’s get cooking! (it’s not really cooking ;) )

A Vegan Protein Shake Recipe to Get You Out of Bed and Ready for Summer

What could be better than a sprightly breakfast that’s tasty, literally takes 3 minutes to prepare, and adds some zip, zing, and ka-POW to your energy levels and make your morning more manageable?

Enter this vegan protein shake recipe and delight:

I love that this simple mix sends you out the door with a nice serving of fruit and vegetables - since I add Green Juice Powder- which cuts some of the pressure to consume huge veggie portions for the rest of the day, has fantastic healthy fats for the brain, blood-platelets-supporting coconut water, and a great sweet-to-healthy balance.

My vegan protein shake recipe and green juice powder masterpiece leverages:

  • Coconut milk: used in South America and many other places around the world for its deeply hydrating properties, treat low blood platelet count when people are sick with something like Dengue.
    • Mango: delicious summery fruit that also has some impressive health benefits, including alkalizing the body, are rich in iron, and have been used in tropical countries to cure anemia (which can also make you feel sluggish!)
    • Avocado: frozen and full of healthy fats.
    • Complete protein! So you feel satisfied and get out of the door quickly.
    • Moringa: an energy-boosting superfood native to India.

The not-so-secret ingredient that makes this your early-riser formula: Moringa.

    What Is MORINGA?

    • A fast-growing tree native to the foothills of the Himalayas in India
    • The cultivated leaves and seed pods are often used as vegetables
    • Used as an herbal medicine

    Health Benefits Of Moringa

    • Powerful antioxidant that fights free radicals
    • Has tissue-protective properties
    • Nutrient-packed: vitamin A, B, C, E
    • Contains calcium, iron, protein, and potassium
    • Has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties
    • Enhances wound recovery
    • Provides instant energy boost without a “crash” or slump

With loads of Vitamins, Iron, Potassium and Magnesium, superfood moringa provides key nutrients involved in the mitochondria of our cells, providing an “energy boost,” moringa may also help sugar break down to create energy in the body which makes it the perfect morning meal. That’s why I added it to this vegan protein shake recipe.

    Vegan Mango Protein Shake:

We know, the black forest cake vegan protein shake recipe is the top crowd pleaser, but this mango treat is the perfect refreshing shake to get you in the summer mood and make mornings a breeze - even kids love it!

How To Make A Mango Moringa Morning Milkshake

This sweet and creamy vegan protein shake recipe is loaded with healthy fats, vitamins and minerals to switch your brain on and fuel it throughout the day!

    What You Need

    • ½ cup frozen mango
    • 1 tsp moringa
    • 1 avocado, peeled and frozen
    • 1 cup coconut milk
    • ½ tbsp raw honey
    • 1-2 scoops of complete protein powder

Instructions: Place all ingredients in a blender and mix until all of the ingredients are thoroughly blended and create a milkshake texture.

    • Add more frozen mango or avocado for a thicker texture.
    • Add more coconut water for a thinner consistency.

Make it even easier! Add Organifi’s Green Juice Powder (which already has moringa in it!) to get more super-food nutrients and veggies in the morning. Antioxidant-rich food helps reduce oxidative stress and boosts your energy levels! I like the on-the-go packs so I can add it to any smoothie when I’m traveling.

Green juice powder is a great alternative to the number of greens we’re supposed to consume every day because it uses dehydrated greens, vegetables, fruits, and super-roots that don’t lose any of the nutritional value of the raw veggie but make it more portable, palatable, and easy to consume (if you’re not the biggest veggie lover out there!)

Play around and make this vegan protein shake recipe your own!

Try coconut water or cream instead of or milk, add some blueberries for a colorful punch, up the moringa to two teaspoons if you need more energy, but do try the original at least once, I promise after a few mornings of feeling good you’ll fall in love with it.

It doesn’t get much better than a nutrient-rich vegan protein shake recipe for breakfast, especially when it can wake you up, help you feel good, and nourish you completely.

Pro tip: it can also be an early-afternoon snack when you feel the slump come over. Most low-fruit vegan protein shake recipes can be used like that, actually. The higher the fruit content, the higher the sugar levels, which are usually better in the early morning and not mid-afternoon.

    Enjoy!

No juicer? No problem! Organifi Green Juice is a carefully selected blend of 11 different superfoods including turmeric, spirulina, lemon, mint, moringa and more. It was formulated for busy women and men who are looking for a way to super boost their health and support their lifestyle without spending a lot of time or money in the kitchen. Try it today!
