What is Glyphosate And Is It A Health Risk?

We like our Green Juice, non-toxic. That's why Organifi works hard to make sure every ingredient we use is cleaner, safer, and chemical-free!

What is glyphosate?

One of the main things we avoid when sourcing our ingredients is harmful chemicals. The most common herbicide we watch out for is glyphosate.

Direct contacts with glyphosate can can cause nausea, vomiting, skin irritation and more. Glyphosate exposure in our food and water can have serious negative effects on not only our bodies, but the environment too.

As part of our commitment to quality, all Organifi products are 3rd party tested to make sure they are glyphosate residue and harm-free.

5 Health Implications of Consuming Glyphosate-Contaminated Foods:

  1. Glyphosate has been identified as a “probable carcinogen” by the World Health Organization
  2. Potential liver disease, even in low doses
  3. Potential cancer increase upon chronic exposure, even in low doses
  4. Endocrine disruptor and potential developmental disorders
  5. Kills good bacteria in the gut, which may be related to digestive issues, allergies, weak immune system and depression

Can glyphosate impact the environment too?

Yes! The environment can be directly impacted by glyphosate, including contamination of soil, water, air, and harm to wildlife.

Contamination of Soil

Glyphosate found in the soil have been shown to be toxic to soil organisms such as earthworms, beneficial bacteria and fungi, as glyphosate weakens plants' natural defences making them susceptible to pathogens

Contamination of Water

Glyphosate residues have been found in surface waters. Urban runoff and rain water can infiltrate sewage systems and pollute rivers and coastal waters with Glyphosate. This further poisons fish and other marine wildlife, and is also reabsorbed by humans via swimming, showering and drinking contaminated water.

Contamination of Air

Herbicide sprays can be transported via wind on to other fields or on to wild habitats.  This is linked to airborne illnesses and cancers for those working in the fields and living near fields.

Harm to Wildlife/Decreased Biodiversity

Bee colony Collapse (damages the gut microbiota of bees) and Monarch Butterfly deaths are linked to glyphosate exposure. Glyphosate bioaccumulates so it affects animals all the way up the food chain, from herbivores to carnivores. It is linked to endocrine disruption in animals and amphibians are shown to have increased mortality rates and physical malformations when exposed to glyphosate.

Can something be Organic and have glyphosate?

Yes, the food can be contaminated from rainwater or nearby farms being sprayed with glyphosate.  Also some farmers use glyphosate as a desiccant to quickly dry crops after being harvested.

Organifi's Commitment to Glyphosate-Residue Free Products

Organifi proudly partners with the Detox Project, a third-party lab that tests specifically for Glyphosate Residue to ensure all Organifi products are 3rd party tested for glyphosate residue. By taking the initiative to certify that our products are glyphosate residue free, we are taking the extra step to advocate and support farmers that are not utilizing destructive farming practices by applying glyphosate.
