19 ways to kick off 2019 with a Full Body Detox

19 ways to kick off 2019 with a Full Body Detox

There’s nothing quite as renovating as combining New Year’s and a full body detox; it’s that much-needed reboot after a long year of work, stress and holiday overindulgence. The hope, the energy, the resolutions - it’s SO refreshing and FUN!

I can already feel it! Can you?

New Year’s Eve - or the day after, for all you party people - is the perfect time to start a body detox because you’re cleansing your body of all the things that no longer serve you for the new year ahead, so you can be ready mentally and physically for whatever life throws at you.

It’s the most exciting time of the year because we collectively feel we have a new chance to create our realities, to make it better, to be happy.

So let’s do it!

Let’s create the most beautiful, healthy and happiest version of ourselves yet! Pledge today to kick off 2019 with one (or more!) of these excellent 19 body detox strategies to make it your best year ever.

Are you ready?

Body Detox: Myth Vs. Reality

There are a lot of misconceptions around body detox and how to detox your body given that some people associate it with fad diets and nutrition myths, but it’s actually a necessary process our bodies and minds go through every single day!

I’m here to bust the myth that detoxification is unnecessary or a waste of time.

Body detoxification occurs when your body naturally transforms, neutralizes or eliminates unnecessary cells, material, and toxins.

Your blood, liver, kidneys, lymph system, intestines, brain, and even skin are constantly removing impurities, renovating cells, healing broken links, and getting rid of waste - they’re doing it right now as you read this!

When you decide to go through a body detox, you’re only assisting your body in doing the very processes it is already designed to do. You’re just making it a little easier - and faster - on your organs for a specific period, so they can also take a break from the unnecessary junk of our modern lives.

The only difference between organic body detox and practicing one of these strategies is that detox usually happens automatically, and for a few days you’re taking control of the steering wheel. It’s not only a fantastic thing to do for your most precious home - your body - but also a great way to exercise mindfulness and being present.

Why Detox Your Body and Mind?

Because it’s a fantastic way to lose weight, clear mind fog, reduce stress, feel good, boost your metabolism and reset your liver, among many other health benefits.

Detoxification has been used by Eastern and Western medicine for centuries, it’s a staple of Ayurvedic remedies and it’s all about cleansing the body, resting the mind and eliminating toxins so you can nourish yourself with healthy foods and practices, from inside out.

A good body detox will boost your immune system, guard you against disease and renew your mental and physical power.

It’s a good exercise year-round because our modern and hectic lifestyles usually leave one or more of our natural detox systems compromised through dehydration, constipation, stress and so many other things that keep us from filtering or eliminating waste properly on a regular basis.

Detox Your Body for 2019

#1 Detox with a Green Juice Fast

Try an effortless 5-Day Green Juice morning fast challenge, starting every morning with a green juice meal replacement. You’ll be feeling more energized as your metabolism gets a big boost. Schedule a 5-day morning juice fast for the first week of the year and follow it with one or more of the strategies below.

Why it Works:

Green juices detox your body injecting vital nutrients into your bloodstream, helping the liver flush out toxins and stimulating the adrenal glands.  Dark leafy greens are rich in vitamins (A, C, K), chlorophyll (that oxygenates and cleanses blood), calcium and iron giving you strength and energy.

#2 Go on a Sugar Detox to Kick the Habit

Refined and processed sugar slow down your system, get you hooked and the excess is easily stored as fat in addition to causing other painful health issues. Yes, there are ways to stop sugar cravings with your current diet. But why not kick the habit cold-turkey?

Go on a 30-day sugar full body detox, committing to only consume the sugar in fruits and vegetables. No added sugar, no processed foods, no candy, and no alcohol - you’ll feel so great! Curb the sugar cravings and help your body burn fat starting the morning with a tart-sweet red juice full of healthy nutrients.

Why it Works:

Removing sugar from your diet for a month will reboot your system and cut addiction, you’ll notice things taste sweeter and you can’t take the same amount after a while. Reintroduce treats without going overboard.

#3 Start Your Mornings with Apple Cider Vinegar

We’ve covered before the benefits of apple cider vinegar, and we can’t stop talking about it! A great way to cleanse your body every day is by having a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in water before a workout or half an hour before a meal; it helps your body become more alkaline.

Prepare a wake-up tea with green tea, ACV and ground ginger, or simplify your life trying our power-packed Pure drink, which has apple cider vinegar, ginger root, aloe vera, lemon, coconut water, probiotics and more!

Why It Works:

Apple cider vinegar heats up your body and boosts your metabolism when consumed first thing in the morning or on an empty stomach. It balances your PH by making your body more alkaline.

#4 Reboot Your Gut with a Liquid Cleanse + Probiotics

Your gut has some real heavy-duty work (pun not intended!), especially around the holidays. Rich meals, heavy creams, meats, and sweets slow down our digestion and can be harder to process.  Detox your body with a juice and liquids cleanse for three to five days and introduce a probiotic in your diet.

Your mood will improve and you won’t be able to pinpoint why, but it’s actually your gut feeling happy!

Why it Works:

The gut is the body’s second brain by consuming mostly liquids for three to five days you kick-start the immune system, give digestion a break, get rich nutrients and allow your colon to eliminate waste. The probiotics help reboot and reestablish your gut flora and help balance your mood.

#5 Rejuvenate with a Detox and Intermittent Fasting Combo

Intermittent Fasting is a fantastic way to reboot your system, feel rejuvenated and lose weight. All you have to do is find a schedule to stick to and reduce energy intake (meals) to allow your body to leverage the benefits of a fast. Power it up by detoxing on fast days with green juices.

Why it Works:

Intermittent fasting alternates days where you eat full meals, with days where you either don’t eat or only consume 500-600 calories. Your body immediately reacts by activating stem cell production, increasing white blood cell count and burning fat. The green juice addition helps your body remove the waste promptly, while also giving you a boost of energy.

#6 Detox Your Pantry and Switch to Clean Eating

Try a mostly plant-based, organic and simple foods diet for a month! January is known as veganuary, and while you don’t have to switch to a vegan diet permanently or even full time, 30 days of feeding your body plants, legumes and unprocessed food can be a powerful way to do a full body detox.

Heck, why not try it for even one day a week?

Donate canned foods and processed items that have been sitting in your pantry longer than you can remember and try new fun recipes in the kitchen!

Why it Works:

Meats take longer to digest and be processed than other sources of proteins, they usually keep you full longer, but on the flip side they also can slow down digestion if consumed daily. Switching to plant-based meals will reset your system and make you feel good. Plus it’s great for the planet!

#7 Flush Out Toxins with Water, Lemon, and Ginger

Lemon water to lose weight and detox? Yes!

There are two ways you detox your body with this magic concoction: in the morning as a wake-up infusion, or throughout the day as a refreshing twist on your daily water intake. For the infusion simply boil some ginger root and add lemon to a cup to sip while you read your emails.

Add to your water bottle a piece of ginger with or without bark, some lemon slices, and some cucumber to slowly but steadily cleanse your adrenal system, boost your immune system and promote fat loss.

Why it Works:

Lemon has vitamin C and other properties that help your immune system fight off potential infections, while ginger is a powerful natural antibiotic with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Together with plenty of hydration, they help balance your PH towards the alkaline levels.

#8 Detox Your Adrenal Glands

The endocrine system regulates metabolism, growth, sleep, and your overall development, they control everything from the famous adrenaline rush to the melatonin that signals your body is time to go to bed. Reset and detox your body with simple these three juice recipes that you can add to your weekly meal plan.

Why it Works:

Disrupted sleeping patterns, too much screen time (and exposure to blue light), processed foods, an unbalanced diet can all cause adrenal fatigue. The right combination of nutrients in easy to digest liquids fuel your adrenal system so it can perform at its best.

#9 Try a 7-Day Free Meditation Course

Meditating has so many health benefits that they require their own post to list, it is the perfect way to reboot your most important system to kick off 2019 in the right mindset. Meditation doesn’t have to be hard, or weird. It’s just a practice of awareness that helps you disconnect from your busy life to give your thinking mind a break.

Try one of these apps and set yourself up for a 7-day challenge: Calm, Headspace, or Insight Timer. They all have short 7-day challenges that take you through the process step by step.

Why it Works:

A meditation challenge makes you commit to an everyday practice, the health benefits of meditation are cumulative and more visible with consistent training.

#10 Commit to 30 Days of Yoga - for Free!

One of YouTube’s favorite and friendliest yoga star is Adriene Mishler, who hosts a free 30-day yoga for all challenge every January, for free, on the tube. Yoga with Adriene is gentle, soft and challenging at the same time and will help you connect body and mind. A body detox that takes the physical to wring out the emotional and energetic bodies.

Why it Works:

You won’t feel intimidated by a yoga studio or class, you can follow at your own pace at home and learn from an experienced teacher whose motto is “Find What Feels Good.” It’s gentle enough a newbie won’t feel rejected, but challenging enough that by day 30 you’ll feel physically stronger. Pro Tip: the 30-day challenges from the past are already available.

#11 Stimulate Blood Flow with Easy Inversions

Relax! Not talking about a headstand, although you are more than welcome to try those. There are easy inversions that help circulation and recharge your muscles. Try legs up the wall for 5 to 10 minutes a day for a month to see how much better your legs feel at the end of the day.

Do a forward fold with bent knees in the morning to bring healthy blood flow to the brain and to bring relief to your lower back, stretch out the hamstrings and strengthen your hips. Do two or three to stretch out slowly and reap the benefits.

Why it Works:

Inversions move blood in the opposite direction, this helps muscles fight inflammation, and oxygenates your organs. They help relieve stress stored in the physical body and calm the mind through conscious breath.

#12 Turn Off Electronics 90 Minutes Before Bed

Now that’s a challenge! Turn off your computer and other electronics 90 minutes before you go to bed, spend time making dinner, talking to loved ones face to face, reading a good book or enjoying a board game.

Why it Works:

Your body will rest better having had a break from blue light emitted by your device’s screen. Melatonin will kick in at the right time, and you’ll give your mind a break from all the social media clutter and information overload our brains go through nowadays.

#13 Kick The Caffeine Habit

Caffeine does wonderful things for your body, but like everything else in life, it is best in moderation. Kick your caffeine addiction by reducing your cups of coffee per day to one and then to none. Make sure you only drink coffee or green tea in the mornings, so your body has the time to flush it out by bedtime, and switch to relaxing beverages at the end of the day.

Why it Works:

Caffeine addictions tend to come from lack of energy, by reducing, restricting and ultimately eliminating caffeine support for energy and allowing quality rest at night, your body will feel naturally energized which will cut your dependency.

#14 Exercise 150 Minutes a Week

“Exercise gives you endorphins, endorphins make you happy, happy people don’t shoot their husbands.” All ‘Legally Blonde’ jokes aside, exercise is a necessary and natural part of life, in our hectic modern life we sit around too much. Get a real full body detox by getting aerobic exercise at least 150 minutes a week - the recommended amount by the American Heart Association.

Why it Works:

Aerobic exercise revitalizes your muscles, improves circulation, releases endorphins and help you sweat out toxins. It also gives you a great feeling of accomplishment and helps you rest better at night.

#15 Start Your Day Hot and Cold

Contrast showers or hot and cold showers are a great way to detox your body and start your day off right. Simply stat alternating 2 minutes of hot water with 20 seconds of cold water to shock your system and ignite a reboot. It’s hard at first, but as you grow used to it, you'll feel better and better.

Why it Works:

Contrast showers to improve circulation, make you feel more awake in the morning, boost energy levels, and soothes sore muscles. It’s great if you’re in a fat loss or strength training journey!

#16 Stimulate Your Chi

Get an acupressure mat and lay down for 10 to 20 minutes to improve circulation, relieve pain and activate energetic motion in your body. Chi is described as our life-force, it is the Chinese word for “breath,” and other cultures describe it as prana, spirit, etc. Even if you don’t believe in the energetic system, acupressure stimulates specific points in the body and boosts your system through controlled deep breaths.

Why it Works:

Acupressure mats are affordable and hit many energy spots in the body creating a safe, at-home, alternative to acupuncture. The combination of deep breathing and pressure point relief makes you feel relaxed, while your body’s blood flow increases and you release toxins.

#17 Detox Your Senses with Essential Oils

Lavender, peppermint, orange, three basic essential oils that you can use at home with a diffuser or directly on the skin diluted with coconut oil to reap the benefits of aromatherapy. Use them to accompany mediation sessions or self-massage.

  • Relax with lavender
  • Breathe freely with peppermint
  • Feel energized with orange

Why it Works:

Essential oils are concentrated plant extracts that retain the plant’s essence and powers. Aromatherapy is widely used to stimulate or calm the mind through smell.

#18 Detox Your Mind with Gratitude

Start 2019 being grateful for everything you have, everything you’ve learned and the contrast that got you there. The science behind gratitude, affirms that a regular practice of noticing and stating things to be grateful for lifts your mood, making you happier and healthier.

Start every day writing down, stating or sending a friend a voice note, saying 3 to 5 things you are grateful for. Do this every morning as you wake up for a month.

Why it Works:

Forcing yourself to take a moment to account for the good things in your life automatically makes you happier, more present and more resilient. It’s hard to be mad (and fill your body with toxins!) when you notice the many things we can be grateful for.

#19 Do a 30-Day Body Detox Challenge!

Mix and match three or more of these options combining mind and body detoxification strategies to start the year with high energy, improved health and a calmer mind.

My favorites: start with a one-week Juice Cleanse with green juices, combined with 7-day gratitude and meditation practice and 150 minutes of aerobic exercise. Wind down with inversions at night, sipping Gold Tea and giving yourself a massage with lavender oil.

Enjoy a happy new year helping your body kickstart your immune system, helping the liver flush out toxins and giving your mind a much-needed break and see how much better you feel by February. You’ll feel so great that you probably want to keep more than one practice up for the rest of the year!
